The structure that made Vegas possible: 221 meters high, a masterpiece of engineering – with a tour of the power plant and views from the Memorial Bridge.
Built in the 1930s, Hoover Dam holds back the Colorado River to form Lake Mead and supplies the region with water and electricity. Without it, Las Vegas as we know it today would not exist.
The classic tour takes you onto the dam, into the visitor center and – depending on your ticket – down to the power plant with its massive turbines.
The best view is from the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge, which spans the gorge 280 meters above the river.

- There is a security screening for the power plant tour – leave pocketknives etc. at your hotel.
- The Memorial Bridge is accessible on foot and free to visit.
- Extremely hot on the dam in summer – bring a hat.
- Easy to combine with a visit to Boulder City or Lake Mead.

Der Hoover Dam ist wirklich riesig und beeindruckend. Man sollte ihn auf jeden Fall einmal gesehen haben. Viel Zeit muss man hier aber nicht einplanen – kurz anhalten, die Aussicht genießen und dann weiterfahren.
Auf der Arizona Seite kann man kostenlos parken. Trinkwasser nicht vergessen und eine Kopfbedeckung. Toiletten auch kostenlos auf dem Damm und im Visitorcenter
Immer wieder gern. Tolles Bauwerk. Man kann mit dem Auto darüber fahren. Alles kostenlos. Im Parkhaus 10 $ Parkgebühr.
Es war ein schöner Besuch an Hoover Dam, zuerst kann man entlang der Interstatebrücke laufen und runter zum Dam schauen Anschließend fährt man direkt zum Dam und kann ihn entlang laufen und zum Visitorcenter gehen.Insgesamt war es interessant und hat sich gelohnt.
